At least three people lost their lives during the Indian Air Force's (IAF) air show at Marina Beach in Chennai, which was attended by lakhs of spectators, officials confirmed on Sunday. The victims were identified as Srinivasan (48), Karthikeyan (34), and John Babu (56).

According to reports, the deaths were attributed to dehydration and the overwhelming crowd. Additionally, 230 individuals were hospitalized for similar reasons. The air show was part of the IAF’s 92nd Foundation Day celebrations and ran from 11 AM to 1 PM.

India Today reported that crowded metro stations, such as the nearby Lighthouse metro and Velachery railway station, were overrun by people returning from the show, making it difficult to stand on the platforms.

Several spectators fainted due to the heat and overcrowding, with authorities treating them at government facilities. The event also caused traffic gridlock in Chennai, affecting major roads near Marina Beach.
