Sonia Gandhi Wept For Batla House Terrorists”: Amit Shah Slams Congress in Parliament
Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a strong attack on the Congress party in Parliament today during a special discussion on Operation Sindoor, questioning its stand on terrorism and recalling the controversial Batla House encounter from 2008.
What Did Amit Shah Say?
While speaking in the Lok Sabha, Amit Shah accused the Congress of showing sympathy towards terrorists. He said that former Congress President Sonia Gandhi cried after the Batla House encounter, where two Indian Mujahideen terrorists were killed in a police operation. Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, a Delhi Police officer, lost his life during the encounter.
Shah mentioned seeing senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid weeping on TV after visiting Sonia Gandhi. “If you had to cry,” Shah said, “you should have cried for Shaheed Mohan Sharma, not for the terrorists.”
The Batla House Encounter: A Quick Recap
The Batla House encounter took place on September 19, 2008, in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar. Two terrorists hiding in a flat were killed by a special team of the Delhi Police. The operation also claimed the life of brave officer Mohan Chand Sharma.
At the time, the encounter was surrounded by political controversy. Some leaders and activists questioned the authenticity of the encounter, while many others praised the police action.
Further Criticism of the Congress
Amit Shah didn’t stop there. He also took a dig at Congress MP P. Chidambaram for raising doubts about whether the attackers in the recent Pahalgam terror attack were from Pakistan. Shah accused Chidambaram of trying to “save Pakistan” and giving them a clean chit.
“I thought the opposition would be happy that the terrorists involved in Pahalgam were killed. But it looks like they are upset,” Shah added.
He also confirmed that three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack were neutralized in Operation Mahadev.
What It Means Politically
This speech adds fuel to the already intense political battle between the ruling BJP and the Congress, especially around the issue of national security. The BJP continues to highlight the Congress's past record on handling terrorism, while the Congress accuses the ruling party of using sensitive issues for political gain.
As India heads into a politically charged environment, especially with key elections on the horizon, such debates in Parliament are likely to draw strong reactions from both sides.
