BSNL & MTNL Not for Sale: Government Confirms No Privatisation

The Indian government has put an end to all speculation—state-run telecom giants Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) will not be privatised. Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar confirmed this while responding to a question in Parliament on Wednesday.

This announcement marks a major shift in policy, as earlier reports had suggested that the government was considering privatising state-owned enterprises, including MTNL. However, instead of selling them off, the government is focusing on reviving and strengthening BSNL and MTNL with fresh financial support and 4G expansion plans.
