Ayodhya’s Record-Breaking Deepotsav: 25 Lakh Diyas Illuminate the Sarayu
This year, Ayodhya made history with its grand Deepotsav celebration, lighting over 25 lakh diyas along the Sarayu River and setting a new world record for the largest number of lamps lit simultaneously. This awe-inspiring display created a golden glow across the riverbanks, enhancing the spiritual and cultural significance of this event for thousands of attendees and viewers worldwide.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the celebration, describing it as “amazing, incomparable, and unimaginable.” The Deepotsav marks an important tradition in Ayodhya, especially meaningful this year as it follows the Pran Pratishtha of the Ram Mandir—a pivotal event in the city’s religious history.
Ayodhya’s Deepotsav wasn’t only about lighting diyas. The event saw artists from around the world come together, with performers from Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, and other countries contributing to the cultural festivities. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the ‘aarti’ and participated in a symbolic chariot-pulling ceremony, adding grandeur to the evening.
One of the event’s highlights included vibrant tableaux representing scenes from the Ramayana, crafted by Saket Mahavidyalaya in collaboration with the state’s Information and Tourism Departments. The scenes depicted key moments from the epic, like Bal Kand and Lanka Kand, paying homage to Tulsidas’s Ramcharitmanas.
With the Pran Pratishtha of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and a record-breaking display of unity, Ayodhya’s Deepotsav is a celebration of culture, spirituality, and the strength of shared traditions. As the diyas lit up the Sarayu, they symbolized hope, peace, and a renewed sense of community for people across India.
