Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal took to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday to share his experience as a delivery executive, revealing that a mall in Gurugram barred him from using the lift while collecting a food order. Goyal, who along with his wife Gia Goyal (formerly Grecia Munoz) had taken on the role of delivery partners to gain a better understanding of their daily challenges, said he was asked to use the stairs at Ambience Mall when he tried to pick up an order from Haldiram's.

In his post, Goyal described how delivery partners were not permitted to enter the mall through the main entrance or use the elevators. Instead, they were directed to wait at the stairwell for their orders. After being told to take the stairs to the third floor, Goyal shared, "I chilled with my fellow delivery partners while also getting valuable feedback from them." He eventually managed to collect the order when the staircase guard briefly stepped away.

The Zomato CEO reflected on the incident, stating, "We need to work with malls more closely to improve working conditions for all delivery partners. And malls also need to be more humane to delivery partners." His post sparked reactions from users, many of whom highlighted that such restrictions extend beyond malls to various residential societies and offices, which also deny delivery partners access to main lifts.

This isn't the first time Goyal has stepped into the shoes of a delivery executive. Last week, he shared pictures of himself and his wife delivering food orders on the streets of Gurugram.

Goyal's initiative shines a light on the need for greater respect and consideration for delivery workers, sparking conversations about how businesses and establishments can create more inclusive and dignified environments for these essential workers.
