Tragic Accident Claims Life of Mumbai-Based Influencer at Kumbhe Waterfall
In a devastating turn of events, Mumbai-based travel and lifestyle influencer Aanvi Kamdar has tragically lost her life after a fatal fall at the Kumbhe waterfall in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. The incident occurred on July 16, 2024, highlighting the risks associated with social media fame and the extreme measures some take to capture the perfect shot.
The Incident
Aanvi Kamdar, 27, was on a trip with seven friends to the scenic Kumbhe waterfall when the accident happened. While recording a video and capturing photographs of the breathtaking surroundings, Kamdar slipped and fell into a 300-foot gorge. Her friends quickly contacted local authorities, prompting a swift response from the Mangaon police and rescue teams.
Raigad Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharge provided details on the rescue operation. Initially, it was feared that Kamdar was dead, but upon closer examination, it was confirmed that she was still breathing. Despite immediate efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries at the Mangaon Taluka government hospital.
The Rescue Operation
The rescue mission was fraught with difficulties. Heavy rainfall and falling stones made the operation challenging, complicating the efforts of the Kolad rescue team, the Coast Guard, and Maharashtra State Electricity Board staff. The teams faced treacherous conditions as they worked tirelessly for six hours to retrieve Kamdar from the gorge.
According to a rescuer, the difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions created a hazardous environment, slowing down the rescue efforts. Despite their best attempts, the severe injuries Kamdar sustained led to her unfortunate demise.
Kamdar’s Online Presence
Aanvi Kamdar, known on Instagram as @Theglocaljournal, had garnered a substantial following of over 200,000 users. She was celebrated for her engaging content on travel, luxury finds, and lifestyle tips. Her posts often featured travel budgets, itineraries, and insights into various destinations across India.
Kamdar’s content was particularly focused on “monsoon tourism,” showcasing travel experiences during the rainy season. Her death has sent shockwaves through her follower base and the broader social media community, with many expressing their condolences and reflecting on the perils of creating viral content.
A Sobering Reminder
This tragic event serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers inherent in extreme content creation. Authorities have issued a warning to tourists about the importance of safety, especially during the monsoon season. This incident follows a similar recent tragedy involving a young woman who died while filming for social media.
