Supreme Court Ruling and Impact on Results

The Supreme Court dismissed appeals calling for the cancellation and re-administration of the controversial NEET-UG 2024 examination, concluding that there was no substantial evidence to indicate systemic breaches compromised the examination's integrity.

The major revisions in the results are due to the SC's decision on a Physics question, which reportedly had two correct answers initially. The NTA had rewarded marks to students for marking either of the two options. However, after the SC's ruling and observations by IIT-Delhi professors, it was decided that only one option would be considered correct.

Impact on Students

This decision by the apex court will lead to a revision in the marks of over 4 lakh students who had marked the incorrect option. Among these students, 44 were previously declared exam toppers after receiving grace marks for the Physics question. Following the revision, these students will now score 715 out of 720, reducing the total number of toppers from 61 to 17.

Union Education Minister's Announcement

On July 23, 2024, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that the revised final result of NEET UG 2024 would be released within the next two days. The initial results, announced on June 4, showed 67 students sharing the top rank. The Supreme Court's intervention, based on an expert committee from IIT-Delhi, mandated accepting only one correct option for the disputed question.

Conclusion

The release of the NEET UG 2024 revised results by the NTA marks a significant development for medical aspirants. Students are encouraged to check their results promptly, as the revised scores may impact their future academic pursuits in the medical field. The Supreme Court's decision has ensured the examination's integrity and fairness, providing clarity and direction for the affected students.
