The newly launched Maruti Suzuki Dzire has set a significant milestone by achieving a five-star rating for adult occupant protection and four stars for child occupant safety in the Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) voluntary test. This makes the new Dzire the first model from Maruti Suzuki to earn a five-star safety rating.

The updated Dzire comes equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and pedestrian protection as standard. These safety features were tested against Global NCAP's crash protocols, which assess frontal and side-impact protection, ESC, pedestrian protection, and side-pole impact protection. The test results confirm that the new Dzire offers improved protection for both adult and child passengers compared to its predecessor.

David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation, praised Maruti Suzuki's achievement, noting that this five-star result sets a new safety benchmark for the company’s models. He expressed hope that Maruti Suzuki will continue to apply this high level of safety across its entire range, a move that would be a game changer for Indian consumers.

2024 Dzire Safety Features and Performance:

In the crash test, the structure and footwell area of the new Dzire were rated as stable, with the ability to withstand further loadings. The car provides three-point seatbelts in all seating positions, i-Size anchorages as standard, and offers full protection for adult occupants in the pole and side-impact tests. However, the frontal test revealed marginal protection for the driver’s chest.

For child occupant protection, the 18-month-old dummy received full protection, while the 3-year-old dummy showed good protection to the head and chest. However, the neck protection could be improved with a rearward-facing child restraint system (CRS).

Comparing the New Dzire with the Previous Model:

The earlier model of the Dzire, which was tested in Global NCAP’s earlier initiatives, received only two stars for both adult and child occupant protection. The old model lacked side head protection, and the side impact test revealed weak chest protection for the dummy. The child occupant test also showed poor results, as the car lacked three-point belts in all seating positions and proper child safety restraints.

Global NCAP’s Voluntary Testing:

Maruti Suzuki submitted the new Dzire for voluntary testing with Global NCAP, marking a significant move towards enhancing the safety standards of their vehicles. This voluntary initiative is part of a wider effort by Global NCAP to promote safer cars and to encourage automakers to provide better protection for consumers, especially in emerging markets like India.

Further Updates and Global Impact:

Global NCAP's efforts to improve vehicle safety are supported by the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign, which has helped increase awareness about vehicle safety in India since 2014. Over the past decade, more than 70 safety assessments have been conducted, contributing to the improvement of Indian vehicles' safety standards.

As the car safety landscape in India evolves, the new Dzire's five-star rating is expected to push other manufacturers to enhance their safety protocols, providing Indian consumers with more secure choices in the automotive market.
