Maha Kumbh 2025: Over 90 Lakh Devotees Take Holy Dip at Sangam on Maghi Purnima
The Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj is witnessing an unprecedented turnout, with more than 90 lakh devotees taking the holy dip at Triveni Sangam on the auspicious occasion of Maghi Purnima. The event, which began on January 13, has already seen over 45 crore attendees, and with two major bathing days—Maghi Purnima and Mahashivratri—still remaining, the final count is expected to surpass 50-55 crore by its conclusion on February 26.
Maghi Purnima: A Day of Spiritual Significance
Maghi Purnima holds a special place in Hindu traditions as it marks the culmination of the month-long Kalpavas. Thousands of Kalpvasis, who have been residing on the riverbanks for spiritual observances, concluded their rituals on this day. Devotees believe that taking a dip in the holy waters on this occasion washes away sins and brings divine blessings. Along with bathing, charity and worship also hold great importance on this day.
Massive Arrangements for Seamless Pilgrim Experience
Given the enormous footfall, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken extensive measures to ensure smooth movement, safety, and well-being of devotees. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has implemented a specialized traffic plan, turning the Maha Kumbh area into a ‘no-vehicle zone’ to avoid congestion. Private and public transport vehicles are being directed to designated parking areas, and shuttle services such as buses and rickshaws are in operation to ferry devotees to the ghats.
To manage the massive gathering, 20 special teams along with Jal Police are actively monitoring the 44 ghats where devotees are taking the holy dip. Authorities are also regulating the flow of people through pontoon bridges, ensuring a systematic movement based on crowd density.
Enhanced Security and Medical Readiness
With millions converging for the Snan, security has been significantly heightened. Police personnel, disaster response teams, and drone surveillance are actively monitoring the area. Special attention has been given to health services, with all hospitals in Prayagraj and surrounding areas placed on high alert. A total of 133 ambulances, including river and air ambulances, have been deployed to address any emergencies swiftly.
CM Yogi Adityanath’s Greetings and Special Announcements
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended warm greetings to devotees and saints on the occasion of Maghi Purnima Snan and the upcoming Sant Ravidas Jayanti. He emphasized the spiritual significance of the event, noting how millions are coming together in a display of faith and devotion.
Additionally, with the CBSE and ICSE board exams coinciding with the Kumbh, special provisions have been made for students who might face difficulties reaching their exam centers due to traffic congestion. Authorities have announced alternative exam schedules to ensure minimal disruption for students.
International Attention and Devotee Testimonials
The Maha Kumbh is not just attracting pilgrims from across India but is also drawing international attention. A Belgian pilgrim called the event "the best place in the world," praising the spiritual energy and massive scale of organization. Several other foreign devotees expressed their awe at the seamless management of such a vast gathering.
A Historic Maha Kumbh
With attendance already exceeding 45 crore, the Maha Kumbh 2025 is set to become one of the largest religious gatherings in history. The upcoming bathing day on Mahashivratri is expected to witness another massive turnout, further solidifying this year's Kumbh as a landmark event.
