The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced a significant change for CA Final students—starting from 2025, the exams will be conducted three times a year instead of the current twice-a-year schedule. This move aims to offer greater flexibility and accessibility to aspirants, aligning the Final exam frequency with the CA Intermediate and Foundation courses.

Greater Opportunities for CA Aspirants

Until now, CA Final exams were held only twice a year, limiting the number of attempts students could make. However, from 2025, CA Final exams will be held in January, May, and September—the same as the CA Intermediate and Foundation levels.

The 26th Council of ICAI described the decision as "historic," stating that it brings the CA course in line with global best practices. With this change, students will have more opportunities to clear their exams, reducing the waiting period between attempts and enhancing their chances of success.

Post Qualification Course Also to Follow Thrice-a-Year Cycle

In addition to the CA Final exams, ICAI has also announced changes to its Post Qualification Course in Information Systems Audit. This course, previously conducted twice a year (in June and December), will now be held three times a year in February, June, and October.

This change aims to offer more flexibility and accessibility for ICAI members pursuing post-qualification certifications, helping them enhance their skills and stay updated with industry standards.

Benefits for CA Students

  • More Exam Attempts: With exams now conducted thrice a year, students will have more chances to clear their papers without waiting for long intervals.

  • Reduced Time Gap: The reduced waiting period between exam cycles will help students stay motivated and reduce their overall preparation time.

  • Better Career Planning: The increased frequency will enable students to complete their exams and begin their professional journey sooner.

Conclusion

The ICAI’s decision to conduct CA Final exams thrice a year is a welcome change for CA aspirants. It provides students with more opportunities, reduces their waiting time, and aligns the Indian CA exam system with international standards. This move is expected to boost success rates and enhance the overall flexibility of the CA course.
