The political landscape of Haryana is abuzz with the recent exit poll predictions following the assembly elections held on October 5, 2024. Initial results indicate a significant shift, with Congress poised for a strong comeback, potentially winning around 55 seats in the 90-member assembly. This anticipated victory could reshape the state's political dynamics and have broader implications for national politics.

Congress Expected to Dominate

According to multiple pollsters, including Matrize and Peoples Pulse, Congress is projected to secure between 49 and 62 seats. Senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed confidence, predicting that the party would win around 65 seats, allowing Congress to form the government with a decisive majority. This would mark a notable resurgence for the party, which faced tough competition in the previous election cycle.

BJP and the Opposition's Stance

On the other hand, BJP leader Anil Vij has maintained optimism, asserting that the party will win and retain power in Haryana. The BJP, which currently holds a significant portion of the assembly seats, is predicted to secure between 18 and 31 seats, according to various exit polls. Despite their confidence, the challenges posed by Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) could significantly impact their electoral standing.

 The Numbers Behind the Predictions

Here's a summary of the exit poll projections from various sources:

-Matrize: Congress 55-62 seats, BJP 18-24 seats, INLD 3-6 seats, JJP 0-3 seats, others 2-5 seats.

- Peoples Pulse: Congress 49-61 seats, BJP 20-32 seats, INLD 2-3 seats, JJP 0-1 seat, others 3-5 seats.

- Dhruv Research: Congress 50-64 seats, BJP 22-32 seats, others 2-8 seats.

- Dainik Bhaskar:Congress 44-54 seats, BJP 15-29 seats, JJP 0-1 seat, INLD 1-5 seats, AAP 0-1 seat, others 4-9 seats.

- P-Marq:Congress around 56 seats, BJP 31 seats, INLD 3 seats.

The majority mark is set at 46 seats, making the predictions particularly significant for both major parties.

Key Issues Influencing Voter Sentiment

The Haryana assembly elections were marked by pressing issues such as agricultural distress, farmers' grievances, and youth unemployment. The Congress party effectively leveraged these local concerns to connect with voters, attacking several of the Central government’s policies, including the controversial Agnipath scheme aimed at military recruitment.

As the BJP aims for a third consecutive term, it faces challenges from a resurgent opposition, which has gained traction by addressing these critical issues.

Voter Turnout and Election Dynamics

The voter turnout for the elections was reported at 61% by 5 PM, with Mewat leading at 68.28% and Gurugram recording the lowest at 49.97%. A total of 1,031 candidates contested across 90 assembly constituencies, and the outcome is eagerly awaited, with the Election Commission set to announce results on October 8.

The 2019 elections saw the BJP winning 40 seats and forming a coalition with the JJP, which has since dissolved. This shift in alliances and the return of Congress could significantly alter the political equilibrium in Haryana.

Looking Ahead

As the countdown to the official results begins, the exit polls paint a promising picture for Congress while leaving the BJP in a state of uncertainty. The outcome in Haryana could serve as a bellwether for upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand later this year, potentially influencing the broader national political narrative.

In the coming days, all eyes will be on Haryana as the results unfold, revealing whether Congress can reclaim its position and how the BJP plans to navigate the changing political tides. Stay tuned for updates as we delve deeper into the implications of these election results for Haryana and beyond.
