According to him, the jet was burdened with too many requirements, making it an “expensive and complex jack of all trades, master of none.” He argued that the program was flawed from the beginning and that success was never a realistic outcome.

Musk also questioned the relevance of manned fighter jets in modern warfare, particularly in an era where drone technology is advancing rapidly. He stated, “Manned fighter jets are obsolete in the age of drones anyway. Will just get pilots killed.”
