Big Bypoll Wins: AAP Shines in Gujarat, Congress Scores in Kerala, TMC Holds Ground in Bengal
In a major political shakeup, the recent bypoll results have brought good news for AAP, Congress, and TMC, as each party claimed victory in key regions across India.
Let’s break it down:
🟢 AAP Makes a Strong Comeback in Gujarat
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won the Visavadar Assembly bypoll in Gujarat — a big win for the party after their recent defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections earlier this year.
This seat was originally won by AAP in 2022 but later lost to the BJP when its MLA, Bhupendra Bhayani, defected. However, this time AAP’s Gopal Italia defeated BJP’s Kirit Patel with a massive margin of over 17,500 votes.
AAP’s Gujarat leader, Isudan Gadhvi, said this win is a signal for what’s coming in 2027, claiming AAP is the only real alternative to the BJP in the state.
🔵 Congress Reclaims Nilambur in Kerala
In Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) scored a big win in the Nilambur bypoll. Aryadan Shoukath, son of former MLA Aryadan Mohd, defeated CPI(M)’s M Swaraj by 11,000+ votes.
This victory brings new energy to Congress ahead of next year’s Kerala Assembly elections, especially in Wayanad, where Priyanka Gandhi is the sitting MP.
The seat became vacant after independent MLA PV Anvar resigned following his party’s merger with the Trinamool Congress.
🟡 TMC Set to Retain Kaliganj in West Bengal
In Kaliganj, West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) is headed for a comfortable win. Alifa Ahmed, daughter of late MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed, led the BJP’s Ashish Ghosh by over 50,000 votes at last count.
This bypoll was held after Nasiruddin Ahmed’s passing. Kaliganj is a Muslim-majority seat (around 54% Muslim population), and the win is expected to strengthen TMC’s position in the lead-up to the 2026 elections.
🟣 AAP Retains Ludhiana West in Punjab
In Punjab, AAP retained the Ludhiana West seat. Sanjay Arora, backed by heavy campaigning from Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, defeated Congress' Bharat Ashu by 10,000+ votes.
The seat had been held by AAP’s Gurpreet Gogi, who passed away earlier this year. This win shows AAP’s hold in Punjab remains strong — even though Congress is supposed to be their ally under the INDIA bloc, both parties went head-to-head here.
đź”´ BJP Retains Kadi in Gujarat
The BJP held on to the Kadi seat in Gujarat. Rajendra Chavda beat Congress’ Ramesh Chavda by a whopping 40,000 votes.
This seat was held by BJP since 2017, and the bypoll was needed after the passing of sitting MLA Karshan Solanki.
🗳️ What Do These Results Mean?
These bypoll results show that:
-
AAP is regaining momentum after its Delhi setback.
-
Congress is rebuilding in Kerala.
-
TMC still dominates Bengal.
-
BJP remains strong in parts of Gujarat.
With general and state elections approaching in 2026 and 2027, these mini-elections act as mood-setters. Parties are now gearing up for the bigger battles ahead.
