Alarming’: Thousands of Indian Students Queue Up for Waiter Jobs in Canada, Video Goes Viral
A viral video showing thousands of Indian students queuing up for waiter jobs outside a restaurant in Canada has sparked widespread concern over unemployment among international students in the country. The video, filmed outside the Tandoori Flame restaurant in Brampton, highlights the struggles that many Indian students face while seeking employment in Canada.
The footage was shared on social media by Agamvir Singh, one of the Indian students in the queue. He explained that he had applied for the job after seeing an online advertisement and was asked to attend an interview. Another student in the video lamented the high levels of unemployment, stating, “It’s so bad; it’s like everyone is looking for a job, and no one is getting a job properly. So many of my friends don’t have a job right now, and they have been here for 2-3 years.”
The viral clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the handle @MeghUpdates, with a caption expressing concern:
“Scary scenes from Canada as 3,000 students (mostly Indian) line up for waiter & servant jobs after an advertisement by a new restaurant opening in Brampton. Massive unemployment in Trudeau’s Canada? Students leaving India for Canada with rosy dreams need serious introspection!”
The post has since garnered nearly two million views, sparking intense discussion. One user wrote, “Alarming, if true. Canada is facing massive unemployment. Didn’t see this number of youths lined up for a job at new restaurants even in India.” Another added, “This reflects the harsh reality of unemployment in Trudeau’s Canada. Those leaving India for dreams need a serious reality check!”
However, some users questioned the authenticity of the video. A Brampton resident commented, “This tandoori flame is 1.7 km away from where I live. They do this every year for publicity.”
The viral video comes amidst a broader debate about job opportunities for international students and immigrant workers in Canada. Criticism of Canada's work permit policies has grown following recent changes made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government. Concerns about job shortages and hiring practices have surfaced, particularly regarding multinational companies like Tim Horton’s, where there have been claims of discrimination in hiring based on nationality.
The video continues to fuel the ongoing discourse on the challenges faced by Indian students and immigrant workers seeking employment in Canada.
