The aviation industry faces frequent challenges, but the recent ordeal of around 400 IndiGo passengers stranded at Istanbul airport has sparked widespread criticism. Passengers traveling between New Delhi, Mumbai, and Turkey experienced over 24 hours of delays, cancellations, and inadequate support.

Chaos and Miscommunication

Passengers reported multiple delays before flights were ultimately canceled. Anushri Bhansali, a stranded passenger, shared on social media that no accommodations, meal vouchers, or assistance were provided. Exhausted and unwell, she lamented the lack of IndiGo representatives at the airport.

Similarly, Rohan Raja described the plight of passengers left in cold conditions without transportation after a flight cancellation. Another passenger, Parshwa Mehta, highlighted the chaos caused by poor communication. Passengers were informed about changes through Turkish Airlines rather than IndiGo staff.

Inadequate Compensation

Passengers were promised lounge access at Istanbul airport, but the facility was too small to accommodate the large crowd. Many had to endure long hours without adequate resources or alternative travel arrangements. The frustration grew as IndiGo failed to announce clear plans for reparations, leading to calls for fair compensation and public apologies.

Poor Customer Service Rankings

This incident follows a troubling AirHelp Score 2024 report that ranked IndiGo among the world’s worst airlines, placing it 103rd out of 109. The report also ranked Air India 61st and AirAsia 94th.
